ORGANIC AND NATURAL FORMULATION 768x432 1 Nain Lab

Natural or Organic, which formulation do you prefer?

With a largely populated planet, and an ever-changing dynamic situation of the globe, today’s consumers are making wiser and informed choices about their purchases. This not only includes, which foods to consume but also encompasses the kind of personal care, home care, and cosmetic products to use.

Opting for more natural or organic products, the people of today are signaling industries to carefully and consciously develop products that will be welcomed only if they satisfy their criteria of being more natural, organic, and less toxic or harmful to the environment. Speaking of cosmetics, the FDA and large cosmetic companies maintain that chemicals typically used in beauty products

(e.g. parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, petrolatum, phthalates, synthetic polymers, synthetic fragrances) are safe in small quantities, however, no one really knows the long-term effects of their application. The European Union (EU) has banned over a thousand different personal product ingredients that have been linked to cancer, birth defects, genetic mutation and/or reproductive harm.

Definition

wise, natural and organic can be understood as follows

NATURAL

As the word itself describes, natural is anything that is sourced from nature, it includes those ingredients that are derived from plants, flowers, minerals, in nature, and do not comprise any genetically modified components are free from harmful substances, lack petrochemicals, etc. These are products that are generally not tested on animals and their manufacturing retains the integrity of the natural ingredients.

ORGANIC
Often confused with the term natural, this is another coveted word in today’s demanding market. All over the developed nations of the USA, UK, Australia, certified organic has more or less the same meaning. It basically implies that the product or ingredient when classified as “organic”, means that it has come from a farming system, which does not use pesticides, herbicides, artificial fertilizers, is devoid of synthetic colours, preservatives, chemicals like parabens, sulphates, the land from where it originated has no or limited antibiotic usage, has not been subjected to growth regulators, etc. This is a more regulated term. Both the terms seem quite similar, however, they are distinctively different. Though they imply that the products bearing their names should have a natural origin, specific dissimilarities between the two impart their uniqueness.

  • Natural products contain natural ingredients, whereas organic products contain natural but more strictly regulated ingredients.
  • Natural products are not regulated by any governing body or stringent guidelines whereas organic products are extremely regulated and are sub-classified into 100% organic, made with at least 70% organic ingredients, and having less than 70% organic ingredients as per various certification bodies like the USDA, U.S. Department of Agriculture.
  • Natural products may be cheaper than their organic counterparts.
  • Natural products may not have a specific logo describing their attributes but most organic products bear an organic certification logo.
